80s Fancy Dress Make Up Tips

If you’re attending or throwing a 80s fancy dress party and are thinking about 80s costumes then you’re in for a load of fun! Coming up with a look for a 1980 fancy dress party is easy because the 80s were all about doing everything to the max from clothes to make up. Even if you choose a costume that you’re not quite sure is 80s enough; just go nuts with the make up and you’ll quickly see the look come to life.

80s make up was all about colour and loads of it as well as liner and I’m talking liner on everything! Pick yourself up some black eye liner and a palette of the brightest shadows you can find and you’re well on your way to achieving the 80s make up look of stars like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Annie Lennox and others.

Using the black eyeliner is going to be easy because you will literally use it on anything that can be lined! Use it to line your eyes along both the top and bottom lash line and be sure to extend out. (Not out and up like you would for a cat eye but rather straight out, kinda’ like Cleopatra). Then, use the black liner to line your lips before applying a juicy, glossy, über-red lipstick. Then you’re ready for the eye shadow.

Applying eye shadow to complete your 80s fancy dress look is a matter of using several colours together. One idea is to sweep a bright shade of blue on your lids, followed by a sweep of pink on your crease and then a sweep of silver or some other shimmery shade just under the brow bone. And while blending would be the next step for today’s make up; 80s eye make up didn’t require blending because the stripy or rainbow sort of look was what you were after! And, it wouldn`t be 80s make up if you didn`t extend your eye shadow colours way past your eyes! Take it out to the sides or stretch it all the way across from one eye to the other. Anything goes when it comes to 80s costumes!

Another great addition to any outfit for a 80s fancy dress party is sparkle. I`m not talking about something shimmery—I mean all-out glitter! Use glitter on the outer corners of the eyes or spread across the eyes in a band. You can also add glitter along your cheekbones or dab some on the centre of your ruby red lips to really vamp up your 1980 fancy dress look. The great thing about glitter—aside from the fact that it`s cheap—is that you can add it to your hair as well. Want to give 80s costumes a sexy kick? Add some glitter to your cleavage, neck or legs. Very Sheena Easton!!

A 80s fancy dress party is a great excuse to play with make up, get nostalgic and have some fun, so make the most of it by experimenting and doing something that you would normally never dream of doing and channel your inner Madonna!
